How I Didn't Know What I Was Trying to Do in Physics

I had no papers after four years of graduate school. That seems amazing from the perspective of young people who do theoretical physics today. I wrote my first paper, the one about magnetic monomoles in the universe at the end of his fourth year and submitted it to physical review letters and it was promptly rejected. And it was very discouraging because, you know, I thought I was going to finish the following year.
