The majority of the excess risk is actually related to socioeconomic factors and poverty in these communities. Kids living in low income environments are less likely to have access to a complete pedestrian infrastructure, safe places to walk or to play in their neighborhoods. Complete streets is an initiative that suggests that streets should be built for all road users.
