Chaucer's War With the English
Jeffrey Chaucer was taken prisoner by the French during a long siege. The King paid his ransom, and he was later released back into English custody. It isn't clear how or why Chaucer was captured; it could have been while looking for food in the countryside. A few years later, when Chaucer wrote to the Canterbury Tales, he wrote about the hardships of war.
