The Right to Same-Sex Marriage
The Supreme Court is considering a challenge to the federal law that bans discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. The case has been around since before Roe v. Wade was decided, says CNN's John D. Sutter. Justice Kennedy wrote an opinion in which he said many people oppose same-sex marriage based on honorable and decent religious or philosophical principles. But some conservative justices have taken that up as a banner to say if it's decent and honorable, then people should be able to opt out from anti-discrimination laws., writes Sutter.
