Nita's Metaphor for the Historical Man
The unhistorical and the historical are equally necessary for the health of an individual, a people and a culture. Nicha's metaphor for explaining how those two premises work together is that of the horizon. He invites us in the text to imagine a man standing in an alpine valley. History is his sight, everything that he can see - both ahead and behind. Whereas forgetfulness is the mountains obscuring the the horizon.
