Edward Bernays decided that American tobacco should pick out a handful of stylish young ladies with social cachet. So he hires these ladies to show up at the 1929 Easter Sunday parade in New York and walk around smoking their cigarettes flagrantly in public as a protest against women's inequality. He's like fellas on get over here. We're smoking cigarettes now. I ain't capitalism. I'm a motherfucker. This is psycho. It might be over selling a little bit but it was very influential.
