Tim Williamson's work is very impressive but also he would be the first to acknowledge very counterintuitive because he thinks that there is a cut off point but we could not know where it is. There are two things that one has to avoid when one is thinking about these vague cases. The other though is the opposite which seems to me equally mistaken which is to say the only correct way to think about these cases is to stipulate a threshold and stick to it. I mean, if the shepherd for example looks at his can with 48 stones and says that looks like it's enough it would be mad for him to say 'I've still got to go on and add another couple'
