The Political Effects of Rent

Bolivia's Eva Morales' MAS was a very sort of explicit alliance between left-wing social movements and moderate centrist factions who were effectively developmentalist. This isn't how states that use developmentalist strategies have to work, but it is part of the common political strategy in developing countries. Countries that essentially annihilated the landowner in classes by carrying out land reform tend to perform better economically than their counterparts who left their landowner class intact.
