What's the Definition of a Strike?

Sailors and ports have traditionally been sort of militant basically. There was an international culture of sailors where crews would be from all different countries etc. The act of striking emerges out of that sort of quite militant multinational cultureBasically the idea that docks are always left-wing places or militant places is held through to today in reference to Liverpool, for example.
