Baldi learned about attachment in his first year as an undergraduate at Johns Hopkins. Babies are hardwired to do things to reach out for their caretakers, Baldi says. The theory was developed by psychoanalyst Bulby who started developing it in the 50s and 60s. "It's necessary for the survival of the species for a baby to know how to reach out," Baldi writes.
