The Importance of Ephraim as a Doctor of the Church
St. Epherum is considered a doctor of the church by many, including Pope Francis. Ephraim was an ascetic who wrote hymns using Old Testament and New Testament imagery. The churches for whom he is important were decimated or greatly reduced because of their life under Islamic rule.
