What Are These Dark Neons Doing?
Most neurons in the brain are not sending any spikes at all for most of the time thathey were looking at them. The reason they appear to be dark is because we aren't giving the brain anything interesting enough to do. So quite possible that the things we ask animals to do are really quite boring, and that those neurons just aren't involved in the very few things hat we ask them to do. And call this unconscious, because it's requires a lot more data. One wmeaans that they are a reserve army, that they are ere to be recruited. But thats a fairly speculative idea.
