The Importance of Understanding Microbes in the Crust

Scientists are trying to figure out what's happening with microbes in the crust. This is now a really significant biome on Earth and it's largely unknown. Right now our estimates are that there are about 10,000 times more living cells in Earth's crust than there are a number of stars in the universe.
