The Development of Oslo in the Middle Ages
Oslo was founded as a market town really and presumably a place for gathering and trading the produce that was grown in the surrounding lands. There's certainly prominence in church structures, it seems, in the development of Oslo in that moving into the later medieval period. So you've got St Halvard's Cathedral, which is early 12th century. And there are other towns, royal related urban sites that are equally, if not more important such as Bergen up the West Coast.
