D-Day for a Naval Diver in Recon Units
The UDTs were led by two officers who had no prior Naval Combat Demolition experience. They deployed ahead of the landing troops to clear obstacles in order to avoid infantry hiding behind them and hampering their demolition efforts. The problem arose across the beaches is, you know, infantry were hiding behind the obstacles or tragically instances of friendly fire stymied their demolition efforts on Omaha Beach.
