The Debt Dynamics of the United States
The United States is now the biggest debtor nation in the history of the world. A wealthier society almost by definition is going to become a more indebted society. Will we see ourselves print money in response to various events that could lead to significantly higher prices or a higher general price level? Absolutely. Could we see us decide that we need to reorient our society to produce the goods and services that we want to consume closer to shore? Sure, that could certainly happen.
