The Relationship Between Love and Desire
Leoné Abreo wrote three dialogues on love, a hugely popular work that saw about 25 editions in the 16th century. One idea might be to distinguish love from this sort of desire for things one could but does not possess: wisdom and virtue. Even if you already have what you love, you also want to keep having it into the future; time can't give us everything we really want. Are we ultimately just intellectual souls? Or should our theory of love pay due regard to our complex nature as embodied beings?
