How Does Temperament Influence Philosophy?
I think I'm quite timid and fearful. And what Lovecraft presents are quite terrifying visions of human ignorance and human insignificance. It's true that my reaction to them was aversion, a desire to resist. So I do think it interacts with my temperament. The sort of imaginative opening out of questions is an important part of philosophy. But I don't think it enabled me to see things in this case as they really are. so much as to see kind of terrifying possibilities that I then wanted to convince myself when not how it is.
