The U.S. Can Offer a Unique Opportunity in Africa

The short answer is self-interest. I think Africa is emerging as the premier location and resource for the natural resources that are going to be necessary to fuel basically the future. The African countries themselves have not really figured out how to exploit these things in a sustainable way. It will just be sort of a slush fund for a ruling elite.
