In the second century b c, there's kind of an anti helenism movement that both pliny and cato kind of write about how they hate doctors. It used to be actually the role of the potter familius, the man of the house, to take care of the household in that regard. So as medicine is being introduced from the east, particularly from the greeks, there was a big pushback from it. Which is also probably why women practising medicine became more and more skewed as witchcraft and dangerous.
