In the earliest days, you know, sesame street caught flack from the left and the right. You see to this day that politicians, particularly on the right, like to make hay of sesame street and use it as a wedge issue.
Big Bird got vaccinated, an Asian American Muppet moved in, and conservatives got really mad at Sesame Street.
