Last minute, you might see flights being really, really expensive. But the points availability opens up wide because airlines know that last minute are people that are desperate and need to fill those seats. So they also put flights last minute on lower mileage needs. You can kind of get a good sense of when's a cheap time to go by looking at this map. And if it's dollars, then I just stay on Google flights; I try to find the best fares.
