What's the Metaphor of Disruption?

The key concept for explaining a disruption, and the kind of structural underpinning of disruption, is the metaphor of kindling. What happens in media can be quite different than what sort of simple expectations were at the beginning of the century. For television and film, for example, everyone knew something was coming. We didn't know what it was, but new media was coming. And again, that's one of those situations where we were so focused on looking for and expecting new media that we we missed what actually was happening.
