pirus is really important because he's the first contact, in a military way, with rome and with carthage. But also he's very important because he studied how to fight the romans,. And he seems to have written this down. Hannibal seems to have studied his works, or what pyrus said. So we're told, by our sources, that piru's advice to anyone who wanted to fight theromans was that you had to fight them in italy. You couldn't fight them anywhere else. The only way to defeat the romans in italy was to remove them from their allies. That's why pirus is so important in this story
