The Role of Mechanical Tension in Muscular Hypertrophy

By far the most important of the training factors is mechanical tension on the muscle. As you fatigue, it has to pull more motor units in to get the same amount of work done. So that's what you see as progressive bar speed decline. If I load 40%, let's say 35% to 40% of 1RM on the bar, which based on the current evidence seems to be where the lower limit is as low as you can go.
