The Dependency of a Penicylicality Theory

The penicylicality theory is one of the earliest kind of, I would say broad coverage, uh, theories of memory used during language processing. It takes a look at the dependency structures among words. This is somewhat different than the phrase structures that I've talked about before in the context of like probabilistic context or grammars. The storage cost is just like a linear count of how many dependencies can be basically unambiguously, uh, predicted to be incomplete on the basis of what I've already seen in the sentence. And then the integration cost is a function of how many potential retrieval targets intervened between the retrieval queue and the subject of the verb.
