The History of St Francis of Assisi

There's a wonderful new exhibition at the National Gallery, which is reviewed by Michael Proja in this week's New Statesman. He points to the fact that within a century of St Francis's death, they were over 20,000 paintings of him and this has continued throughout the centuries. And I just don't know any other exhibition, which has had ancient iconography and a marvel comic in the same place. That really does get your taste buds tingling.
