The earth's natural systems could well be our biggert single ally in trying to return our planet to a future that we can all get excited about. Doctor thomas crowther is the co-founder and chief scientist of The Arbor Day Foundation, which aims to restore one billion trees around the world by 2050. He has been working on an ambitious project called 'How Many Trees Are There On This Planet?' It would use satellite data to estimate how many trees there are across the globe. But he says it was too easy for people to just look at numbers from satellites - they had to count their own eco systems as well.
