The Importance of Action Guidance
Kant rejected hypothetical imperatives and substituted for them what he called a categorical imperative. He said act as if the maximum of your action were to become, by your will, a universal law of nature. Can you really will that everyone in the world would become a historian? Then we would all starve to death, because there'd be no food. This is not what Kant was getting at. It was intended to be a test of interior moral maxim.
