The Miracle in the West
The failed Allied Operation at Arnhem had given the Germans any grounds for optimism about tactically and operationally how they might be able to take on the Allies. I think what actually gave Hitler encouragement to do it was what they dubbed the miracle in the West. So after the Feliz pocket, the German armed forces had collapsed in Normandy,. but around 100,000 or so German panzer troops were escaped without their tanks. But through the miracle of German industry, they managed to re-equip them. And also Hitler had all these, again, more Wonder weapons, so jet fighters and jet bombers coming online.
