The Different Steps in Donation After Circulatory Death

The process starts in the ICU with the critically ill or injured patient not expected to survive hospitalization. There's no diagnosis of brain death, but generally someone who's mechanically ventilated and very ill. Those potential donors then go through the same process of consent and medical testing for eligibility for donation. The transplant coordinators look for transplant programs willing to accept those organs.
