Using Ecoacoustics to Assess the Health of Ecosystems
Ecoacoustics is set to become a major tool for monitoring environmental health in all sorts of places. A trained ecoacoustician can read a spectrogram like a radiologist could read your x-ray. Long before a landscape looks degraded, it will sound degraded. In some places like Costa Rica, scientists are now using ecoacoustics to make decisions about things like logging.
