The Death Penalty in Japan

Yoshikuni Noguchi was speaking to Dan Haadun and remembering his life as a death row prison official in Japan. Kyara Sanjorjo is the death penalty advisor at Amnesty International, an organization that opposes capital punishment. In November 2021, two death row inmates brought a lawsuit against the Japanese government challenging the legality of this policy on human rights grounds. The history of the death penalty is definitely one of decline in recent centuries far fewer societies execute people than in the past.
