The Impact of the Neutron on the Atom
The discovery of the neutron was made by Italian physicist Enrico Fermi. He used a machine called an 'atom smashers' to smash charged particles into atoms and break them apart. The particle is neutral, so it doesn't get repelled by the positive charge on its nucleus. It could sneak in and perhaps explore the properties of the nucleus.
