The Importance of the Church in the Modern World

The church was uniquely placed to maintain the peace in an era where military power was decentralized. The church, they also were important for spreading technical knowledge and information. They undertook many of the functions that today have since been absorbed by government. So like every centralized authority, eventually it, you know, things change and then new forces causes these change.
