The Importance of German Policy in Brexit
German policy because of Germany's position in the EU can still do error correction. Merkel did something that she then came to regret and was able to respond effectively to German domestic opinion about that. But that isn't an option that other EU governments have in dealing with the problems. When the rise in migration from southern Europe into Britain fueled the rise of UK, we didn't have that option. There is a separate party which is nonetheless always traditionally allied with the CDU which is the CSU. This division over issues like immigration for example has widened in the last couple of years.
