When we watch athletes in action, we can experience their successes or failures vicariously and mimic their emotions as if they were our own. This may be why we take what happens on the pitch so personally. You couldn't think that a ball to save your life in reality, but you still have a sense of it's us because you're part of that us. That's part of the power of sport. It defines our collective selves. And those social identities is as important to us and as relevant to us as our individual identity. Cricket has become almost a metoper it's almost war. It's symbolicof mor than just aher it's a gallery of national pride.
