I think we can in the trial process have a sense of how people grappled with these questions about their identity and in this very specific context get some sense of their emotions. I was just rather surprised that they didn't talk about the devil all that much what I saw was constant references to their conscience their conscience and their mind which was completely unexpected. We have to tread with trepidation and with care so to listen with responsibility but also to do justice to the people by carefully listening to what they had to say, says historian Michael Osling.
