The Importance of Hyper Sensitivity in Astronomy

LIGO's interrometeries are designed to measure a distance of 1,000th the width of a proton. This hyper sensitivity is necessary because the gravitational waves Ligo is measuring come from the very end of the merging of two black holes. So on September 14, 2015 at 5.51 a.m. Eastern daylight time, Liga directed like a Tuesday. The arms of Ligo's instruments are so long because the longer they are, the smaller the measurements they can make.
