Riddles in the Dark
The original version of the habit that tolkan wrote, gallam was a lot more like a fun, joky kind of character. The riddles in the dark chapter is very light hearted because he didn't ever think that this hes, like, before lord of the rings was even in his head. So when he realized that he was going to write lord of the rings, he went back and rewrote the that riddle in the dark chapter to make galla much more sinister which obviously leads into how we know him in the lord of the rings.
