I challenge people to write a list of 50 questions. Figure out how to spend time in those clusters that you're interested in, where you have questions because I think questions really drive sort of curiosity and engagement. Cal Newport's books, so good, they can't ignore you. And also some advice that I heard from an advisory board member who came to our university. You get to pick one as a freshly minted grad. And then fight to find that position.

Dr. Mat Duerden is a Professor of Experience Design and Management at Brigham Young University. His teaching focuses on experience design and design thinking. He is the best-selling author of Designing Experiences. His research focuses on experience design in both work and non-work contexts. Mat’s publications have appeared in a variety of journals including Leisure Sciences, Journal of Environmental Psychology, Journal of Adolescent Research, and Journal of Leisure Research.
