What Is It Like to Stop Working on a Painting?
I think watercolor in particular is like this. You can go too far and you can't undo that. What I do often is I'll get a piece, you know, where I feel like it's 98% there. It's probably missing something but I can't quite identify it because I've been staring at it for two hours. So I'll put it away overnight, usually, and then come back to it the next day. And my first impression, I think I know exactly what it needs. Then it's usually like a tiny little touch and then I, okay, I'm done, I'mdone.
