The Second Naivete

There was certainly something back in ancient Christianity, or, you know, Renaissance Christianity that absolutely grasped some version of that. Montaigne's type of skepticism is I don't understand this stuff, so I'm just going to take it on faith. For the Montaigne skeptic, you can't prove this stuff. Therefore, we have to not as idiots, but as a conscious adult choice to say, "I'm going to lower my intellectual standards of rigor"
