The History of the Gold Rush Skull
The skull was found in the early 1900s, but it wasn't officially deemed to be a hoax until later. The story of George Hull is just one example of how gold rush miners exploited and desecrated an indigenous burial site. "It's the foyer of this mansion of ridiculous excavation," says historian David Frum.
