The History of the Hellfire Club

The first known reference to the Hellfire Club in print was from February 1720 in a publication called Mists Weekly Journal. Later that year, more pamphlets and articles would be published expounding on the alleged activities of the club. One woman came to a Hellfire party with a pillow haphazardly shoved up her dress, claiming that she was the pregnant Virgin Mary. Even the food at these parties was said to be either blasphemous or sexually provocative.
