When it comes to horror literature, it's a way more common to have a horror short stories where the monster or the the evil entity wins in the end. By and large that's not the case with horror novels. In longer works, you tend to have a protagonist that o youre genuinely rooting for. You know something bad is going to happen, and probably can't celebrate when it does.
