Aristides' Opposition to the Mysticlies' Naval Bill
Aristides was the last man in the 480s BC to be ostracized. The issue that probably led to his ostracism was the mysticlies' naval bill. According to Plutarch, there had always been great personal and political rivalry between these two politicians. Their disagreement over this issue was perceived by the Athenians as so divisive they needed a solution. Aristides then wrote his own name on the potyard and turned it into the ballot.
