The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution is distinguished by being the first period of kind of continuous growth in efficiency. It's also easy to see that that process has continued up until the present day as just a normal part of economic life. But it just didn't exist in the world before the Industrial Revolution. And now another thing that makes the Industrial Revolution so hard to actually explain is that a lot of innovations that were initially made were very simple.
