The Third Establishment Is Mindfulness
Mental formations are all the different possible, more complex states of mind. They involve thinking and calculation and emotions of various kinds. Some could be positive or negative, like sleepiness which is great when you're tired but not so great when you've been driving. There's a third category, which they call claches, or sometimes a ashrabas asravas - meaning a unwholesome or leaky mental state. Many of these can be present in the mind a lot at the time, just sort of like residually, and you don't notice it aily until something happens,. But with mindfulness, we notice these things in the mind, all all all of them
