Hilma was the forefront of abstraction but also surrealism as well these automatic shapes and drawings I mean it's just hypnotic in a way yeah. She went on to paint 111 paintings during the period from 1906 to 1908 that's one painting every fifth day. The first of their series was called the 10 largest which as you entered the Guggenheim was this a kind of went slightly off it wasn't sort of part of the round section. They are these wonderful pastel colors and really towering if you think about how large a work this would be for a woman in her 40s Interesting to mention at the time she really undertakes these paintings for the temple she's already 43 44
